OBJECTIVE: The objective of the program is to provide the skills, knowledge and experience required to become a fully qualified technologist in Engineering Aboriginal Relations and Generation in:
P&C Design (Electrical Power Option)
Equipment Testing & Commissioning (Electrical Power Option)
Quality Assurance (Electrical Power Option)
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:
A diploma in electrical technology (power option) from a program nationally accredited by The Canadian Technology Accreditation Board, or other training equivalent to Canadian Technology Standards
Must qualify for membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC)
Must hold valid BC Drivers License
Must be able to work in Canada

The Program
The Graduate Technologist in Training Program involves intensive on the job training and is designed to translate your knowledge into practical experience. This is a two year on-the-job training program where the successful candidate will:
Engineering GTT in P&C Design or Engineering GTT Equipment Testing & Commissioning
Perform a variety of technical functions related to design, planning, construction and maintenance of Distribution, Generation, and/or Transmission systems
Under the direction of an Electrical Engineer develop the ability to design a variety of high voltage and/or low voltage electrical equipment/systems
Build technical knowledge and skills and gain experience in project management
Liaise with field engineers, site engineers, contractors and crews
Troubleshoot and analyze failures
Provide technical support for maintenance of equipment
Travel to sites to supervise tests or provide test support to others
Produce various types of technical documentation.
Engineering GTT in Quality Assurance
Build technical knowledge and skills and gain experience in electrical equipment and components used in the BCH system
Liaise with equipment manufacturers, field engineers, site engineers, contractors and crews
Troubleshoot and analyze equipment failures
Provide technical support for maintenance of equipment
Travel to sites to monitor tests and/or perform detailed inspections of various equipment (i.e. transformers, insulators, bushings, surge arresters, disconnect switches, station battery charger systems, voltage regulators, low to medium voltage cables, station reactors, shunt/series station capacitors, etc.), and/or provide test support to others
Perform supplier plant evaluations and audits as required
Produce various types of technical documentation (i.e. inspection and test reports, comments for tenders and technical specifications, etc.)
Familiarly with some or all of the following is advantageous but not required: 3-phase power systems and basic power calculations, megger and AC hi-pot/dielectric testing, ability to read electrical control panel wiring schematics and symbols, contact resistance/pressure testing, transformer loss and turn-turn ratio testing, familiarity with operation/function of reactive power equipment.
The Future
You will be exposed to challenging assignments and be trained to the highest standards. These experiences will lead you into a Technologist position at the end of your training period.
Rotations
Engineering GTTs are expected to experience a minimum of one rotation during their two year term.
The Location
Location is dependent upon the GTT position you are hired into. Engineering GTT positions are generally located within the Lower Mainland.
