DUTIES: The successful candidate:

Leads the project engineering, scheduling and estimating division within BC Hydro's generation engineering group
Is responsible for delivering the overall portfolio of work done by the division
Develops and implements the business plan and budget
Provides innovative business solutions
Attracts, retains and develops staff to maintain appropriate levels of expertise and competency
Leads and manages a team of approximately 25 engineers and professionals responsible to the project manager for delivering the engineering portion of large capital projects ranging in value from $50 million up to $1 billion
Is accountable for ensuring that engineering solutions meet the business/project needs and are delivered within schedule and budget
Assembles engineering teams of internal and external engineering expertise under the project engineers
Is responsible for ensuring that hazards associated with construction, operations, maintenance and decommissioning are identified and addressed during design
Reviews and approves all estimates greater than $3M
Actively participates on internal committees to improve overall practices and processes related to estimating, scheduling and project engineering
Establishes and cultivates relationships with other senior leaders and stakeholders in order to understand, define and influence business needs
Provides technical leadership and expertise in the discipline
Participates in industry and association based committees to keep up-to-date on developments in the field and to develop business opportunities
Demonstrates BC Hydro values of safety, teamwork, accountability, service and integrity as a model of behavior across business unit and within staff behaviors and decision making.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have:

Bachelor degree or advanced education in a relevant discipline such as Engineering or Project and Construction Management
Twelve to Fifteen years experience in Engineering, Construction Management and/or Project Management working on large projects (greater than $50M)
Experience working in a capital intensive industrial or engineering environment is preferred
Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) and/or Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification preferred
Demonstrated ability to provide senior level technical expertise in the development of engineering solutions and standards
Demonstrated strong leadership, relationship management, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
The ability to establish a high level of rapport with senior management, provide leadership in determining appropriate courses of action and provide expert advice with respect to the urgency of issues
An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

ADDITONAL INFORMATION:

Reports directly to the Director of Generation Engineering, which in turn reports to the Vice President of Engineering
Project Controls experience with Primavera P6 and/or SAP would be an asset
Ideal candidate should be leading teams of up to 20-30 professional staff with business unit accountability and a mandate to set direction, monitor results and build synergy across the unit and broader organization.
