MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
The employee in this classification performs specialized tests, troubleshoots and commissions, electrical apparatus, protective relaying and control facilities.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
· Test, troubleshoot, inspect and commission electrical apparatus
· Test, troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, commission and repair protective relaying and control facilities
· Analyze and diagnose equipment test results and malfunctions and take corrective action as required
· Perform or assist with failure analysis on electrical system forced outages
· Develop maintenance procedures and acceptance tests for new protective relaying
· Develop commissioning plans to connect electrical apparatus to the system as required
· Participate in preventive and corrective maintenance programs
· Arrange for appropriate permits, as authorized, in accordance with the Standard Protection Code
· Interpret and implement engineering and/or manufacturer’s plans, drawings, construction specifications and standards related to installation, modification, repair and operation of equipment
· Maintain drawings associated with the position
· Inspect, service and operate specialized equipment and tools
· Direct, coach, train, orient and monitor performance of assigned staff
· Requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of parts and material
· Compile and maintain records detailing work performed, installed equipment, problems encountered, resources used, repairs made and/or corrective action taken
· Provide technical expertise and support to internal and external groups
· Adhere to applicable safety practices
· Adhere to applicable environmental standards, regulations and corporate commitments
· Participate in continuous educational and professional development, both internal and external and driver’s licencing upgrades, as required by the position
· Utilize SaskPower’s computer operating environment as required by the position
· Co-operate and deal tactfully with other staff
· Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
· Perform other related and assigned duties associated with this position
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited educational institution, or meet the requirements for an Electrical Engineering Technologist established by Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT)
· Must be eligible for certification as an Applied Science Technologist by the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT)
· Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence, as required
· Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position
This position falls within the scope of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 2067.
Candidates under consideration will be required to participate in an assessment process consisting of any/all of the following: interview, ability tests, case study and/or presentation.
